The Basics

What is commercial dehumidifier rental?

Commercial dehumidifier rental is short-term use of industrial-capacity drying equipment that a building owner, general contractor or restoration firm can’t justify owning. The machines are sized to whole floors and buildings, not single rooms, and they arrive with the ducting, power and monitoring a large job needs.

Most commercial jobs fall into one of three needs: an emergency water loss that must be dried before mold and secondary damage set in, a construction schedule that is waiting on slabs, drywall or coatings to dry, or ongoing humidity control in a space whose HVAC can’t keep up.

Pick the Right Technology

LGR or desiccant: which commercial dehumidifier do I need?

Rent LGR units for warm, occupied or finished commercial spaces with normal 70–90°F air; rent a desiccant when the building is large, cold, unheated, unpowered, or you need the lowest possible dew point. Many large losses use both: a desiccant trailer for the bulk air and LGRs in rooms the duct can’t reach.

The difference is physics. A refrigerant dehumidifier condenses water on a cold coil, so it slows down as the air gets cooler and drier. A desiccant unit adsorbs moisture onto a silica-gel wheel and keeps pulling water at low temperatures and low humidity where a coil stops working.

Sizing

What size commercial dehumidifier do I need?

Size a desiccant by air changes per hour (process CFM) and size LGR units by pints per day. Both start with the cubic volume of the drying chamber: length × width × ceiling height.

Desiccant: CFM and air changes

The IICRC S500 method sets a target number of air changes per hour (ACH) by class of water: about 1 ACH for Class 1, 2 ACH for Class 2 and 3 ACH for Class 3. Required process CFM = chamber volume × ACH ÷ 60.

How much space one 5,000 CFM desiccant covers
Class of waterTarget ACHMax chamber volumeExample at 20 ft ceilings
Class 1 (minimal wetting)1300,000 cu ftabout 15,000 sq ft
Class 2 (carpet, pad, walls under 24″)2150,000 cu ftabout 7,500 sq ft
Class 3 (ceilings, walls, insulation saturated)3100,000 cu ftabout 5,000 sq ft

LGR: pints per day

For low-grain refrigerant units, S500 divides chamber cubic feet by a class factor — 100 for Class 1, 50 for Class 2, 40 for Class 3 — to get the total AHAM pints per day you need. Then divide by each unit’s AHAM rating.

Worked example: a 10,000 sq ft office floor with 10 ft ceilings is 100,000 cu ft. At Class 2 that needs 2,000 AHAM pints/day — about 16 LGR units rated 125–130 PPD. The same chamber sits inside the 150,000 cu ft Class 2 range of a single 5,000 CFM desiccant trailer. That gap in unit count, power circuits and labor is why big commercial losses usually go desiccant.

Run your own numbers in the dehumidifier sizing calculator or the full equipment calculator, then call — our team confirms every package from your readings before it ships.

Power & Generators

What power does a commercial dehumidifier need?

Portable LGR units run on standard 115V outlets and draw roughly 5–10 amps each, so a large LGR setup needs many separate circuits. The desiccant trailer carries its own 27 kW diesel generator, so it needs no building power at all — or it can run on 240V single-phase shore power where that’s available.

  • Flooded or storm-hit buildings with utility power off: the trailer runs grid-independent, and we add a generator rental for LGRs, air movers and scrubbers inside.
  • Size support generators with our generator calculator; temporary power should follow NFPA 70 (NEC) Article 590 for temporary installations.
  • On construction sites, OSHA requires ground-fault protection on 120V temporary receptacles (29 CFR 1926.404).
  • Never run a fuel-burning generator inside the building; the trailer and generators stay outdoors and duct or cable in.

Who Rents Commercial Dehumidifiers

Where is commercial dehumidification used?

Anywhere the volume of air, the cold, or the deadline is too big for room-sized equipment.

Warehouses & Distribution

High ceilings mean huge volume. One or more 5,000 CFM trailers dry slab, racking areas and stored goods after roof leaks, sprinkler discharges and floods.

Schools & Universities

Gyms, auditoriums and classroom wings dried on a tight calendar, with a quiet trailer outside and HEPA air scrubbers inside.

Hospitals & Healthcare

Drying inside infection-control barriers, paired with negative air machines to keep dust and spores out of patient areas.

High-Rises & Multifamily

Trailer at street level, lay-flat duct up the stairwell or a window, and LGRs on floors the duct can’t reach after riser or sprinkler breaks.

New Construction Drying

Construction dehumidifier rental to dry slabs, drywall compound and framing before flooring and finishes go in, especially in cold months.

Coatings & Paint Cure

Holding dew point down so surfaces stay above it — the common coatings rule is at least 5°F above dew point — for tank linings, floors and blasting.

Flood & Storm Response

Hurricane, nor’easter and river-flood losses where power is out and dozens of buildings need drying at once. See water damage equipment rental.

Mold Prevention

Fast drying is the main way to stop mold; once growth is present, add containment from our mold remediation equipment rental line.

Retail, Hotels & Offices

Portable commercial dehumidifiers that roll through doorways and run on house power so the rest of the building stays open.

Commercial Dehumidifier Rental FAQ

Where can I get emergency commercial dehumidifier rental?

Restoration Equipment Supply runs 24/7 emergency dispatch from Piscataway, NJ with same-day delivery across New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida. Call (973) 685-4030 with the building size and whether it has power, and we’ll stage desiccant or LGR units for the job.

Is there commercial dehumidifier rental near me?

If your site is in NJ, NY, CT, PA, NC, SC or FL, yes. We deliver trailer-mounted desiccants and portable commercial dehumidifiers directly to the job. See our service areas →

What is the biggest dehumidifier I can rent?

Our flagship is a trailer-mounted 5,000 CFM desiccant dehumidifier that removes 158 lbs of water per hour (AHAM) and runs on its own 27 kW generator. For warehouses and disaster response we deploy multiple trailers on one site.

Do you rent portable commercial dehumidifiers?

Yes. Commercial portable dehumidifier rental covers LGR units from about 70 to 165 AHAM pints per day that run on 115V and roll through a standard door — see the size chart on our dehumidifier rental page.

Can I rent a dehumidifier for a construction site?

Yes. Construction dehumidifier rental is used to dry slabs, drywall and framing before finishes, and to control humidity for coatings. The desiccant trailer is grid-independent, so it works before permanent power is energized.

Desiccant or refrigerant for a cold or unheated building?

Desiccant. Refrigerant and LGR units lose capacity as air cools because they rely on condensation on a cold coil; a desiccant wheel keeps adsorbing moisture in cold, dry air and reaches lower dew points.

How many commercial dehumidifiers do I need?

For desiccants, multiply the chamber’s cubic feet by the target air changes (1–3 per hour by class of water) and divide by 60 for the CFM. For LGRs, divide cubic feet by 100, 50 or 40 (Class 1–3) for total pints per day. Use our dehumidifier sizing calculator, then we confirm.

Do you also rent other commercial restoration equipment?

Yes — air movers, HEPA air scrubbers, negative air machines, HEPA vacuums, heaters, moisture meters and generators, so one call covers the whole drying and containment package. Browse the inventory →
